On Thursday 11th October 2012, as part of Fareshare’s volunteering programme, we were joined by Thomas Tiley of Elanco who spent the day working with our chefs and resident volunteers in the kitchen of our homelessness charity.
Elanco is a partner organisation of Fareshare, who support and supply surplus catering goods and food to Anchor House. FareShare is a national UK charity supporting communities to relieve food poverty. They provide quality surplus food, and training and education around safe food preparation and nutrition, and warehouse employability training to organisations like Anchor House.
As part of Fareshare’s volunteering scheme, Elanco employees spend time working for an organization that helps to feed disadvantaged people in the community.
Thomas spent time with Sonia and Lukasz (our chefs) and Francis and Alexandrina (our resident volunteers). Thomas helped prepare and serve lunch for the residents, local community members and staff at Anchor House where he was able to gain an insight into the types of organisations supported by Fareshare.
Thomas said, “Volunteering at Anchor House enabled me to see where, or to who, the food ends up. It’s great to meet the people that Fareshare are helping.”
FareShare helps improve lives and in 2011/12, the food redistributed by FareShare contributed towards more than 8.6 million meals. Every day an average of 36,500 people benefit from the services FareShare provide.
