London’s Housing Crisis

In this month’s video blog, Director Keith Fernett talks about the capital’s growing housing crisis. He states that just across the road from Caritas Anchor House, there’s a regeneration scheme building hundreds of new ‘affordable’ shared ownership flats.

However, a one bedroom flat requires an income of £38,000 and a two bedroom flat requires £43,000. Although Caritas Anchor House has a remarkable achievement of getting people into work – 37% of its client group – the salaries are usually around the minimum wage mark at £16,000 per annum.
